Meet Our Team

Baylor Rice has an impressive track record as a compounding pharmacist and health professional. He has been a licensed pharmacist since 1994. After earning his degree at the Medical College of Virginia, Baylor worked in community pharmacies. In 1998, Baylor and his wife opened South River Compounding Pharmacy, Inc. His vision of treating each patient based on their individual needs and using a “team approach” by working together with the patient’s physician has proved to be quite successful with positive outcomes for the patients.

South River Compounding Pharmacy also incorporates wellness screenings for disease state prevention and maintenance. Baylor was one of the first pharmacists in the United States to incorporate a cognitive memory test into a community pharmacy. He also offers individual consultations for patients.

In 1999, Baylor co-founded Natural Approaches. Natural Approaches is a company that provides reference materials for natural medicines to health care practitioners based on researched and referenced materials.

Baylor Rice is a member of many professional associations including Professional Compounding Centers of America, Virginia Pharmacists Association, National Community Pharmacists Association, International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. He also serves as a pharmacy preceptor for the pharmacy schools of The Medical College of Virginia, Hampton University and Shenandoah University.

Our pharmacists are Jennifer Horn, Karen Rymers, and Joe Bosta. All have extensive backgrounds in community, long term care and hospital pharmacies.

Dr. Jo Lynne Robins is a holistic adult nurse practitioner. She is an Assistant Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing. Additionally, she owns and operates Integrating Wellness, Inc., a consulting practice focusing on Holistic Nursing, Functional Medicine, and Healing Touch. She is currently a co-investigator in a large NIH National Cancer Institute randomized clinical trial investigating the effects of tai chi and spirituality in women with stage 2 breast cancer. Her other research focus in on heart disease prevention in women. She presents locally, regionally, and nationally on a variety of topics related to Holistic Nursing, psychoneuroimmunology, and complementary and alternative medicine.

Rebecca Barnes, PharmD, R.Ph.  Dr. Barnes received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010.  Prior to pharmacy school, Rebecca specialized in nuclear medicine/nuclear pharmacy working with patients at both the Medical College of Virginia and Duke University.  An interest in pharmacy coupled with a desire to work with patients on a more personal level, led her first to pharmacy school and then into customized compounding.  Rebecca’s areas of interest include women’s health, bio-identical hormone replacement, sterile compounding, and veterinary medicine.

Rhonda Matthias is a Holistic Nutrition Consultant. She completed her M.S. in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health and became Certified in Nutritional Wellness through the American Naturopathic Certification Board. She joined the staff of South River in May of 2005. She is here to help you with nutritional concerns including diet, supplements, and body composition.

Shelton Smith is our Financial and Operations Manager. He started at South River in July of 2002. Shelton has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, as well as an M.B.A. Shelton has twenty years of experience in both large and small business settings and helps us keep things running smoothly.

Karen Nickolaou, Tim Ferguson, Kathy Crone, and Lindsay Meredith are our Customer Service Specialists. They help customers on the telephone as well as in the store with their needs. And, Karen brought invaluable knowledge of computer systems so she often doubles as our IT staff.

The lab team includes Raya Godfrey, Sara Ruffin, Danielle Thornton, Jennifer Lane, and Vicky Palmer.   All are Certified Pharmacy Technicians in the state of Virginia. And, Raya Godfrey is trained in the sterile procedures of the clean room. Raya, Sara, Jennifer, and Vicky also hold the national certification, CPh.T.

Karen Moeller is our Public Relations Coordinator. She joined the staff in 2008 and has a broadcast media and retail background.
