If you answered yes to any of these questions you may be at risk for heart disease.
Prevention is the Key! While heart and vascular disease is the #1 killer in the US, many of us don't take the time to understand the simple things we can do every day to help reduce our risk these diseases. Most of us know that eating the wrong foods, being overweight, inactivity, smoking, stress, and family history each have their place for increasing our risk to heart disease. Many times, we just don't think about it, or are too busy to worry about it, until it's too late. Besides feeding ourselves the wrong things, what are we feeding our children? What can we do to reduce our risk to heart disease?
Start now for some simple changes to your diet, lifestyle, and supplementation to help reduce your risk for heart disease. Let us show you how.
A Prevention Program YOU Can Do!
Diet: Increase your intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, which are rich in powerful antioxidants.
• Reduce your intake of simple carbohydrates & processed foods, as these are void of nutrition, have no antioxidant protection and contribute greatly to most peoples' weight problems. • Reducing the sugars and simple carbs may also help lower triglyceride levels. Look at your labels and eliminate ALL partially-hydrogenated and transfats from your diet! • If you want to snack or graze, do it healthfully! Keep fresh nuts or raw veggies handy to crunch on. Nuts have good healthy fats and veggies take nearly as much energy to process as they provide, while giving you that natural antioxidant protection!
Lifestyle/Activity: Make it a family affair! Just 20-30 minutes a day of brisk activity, such as walking, can help burn calories, get the blood flowing, and help improve your health. Keep video games, net-surfing and TV to a minimum. Frantically moving your fingers on a keyboard, joystick, or remote control doesn't count as healthful activity!
STOP SMOKING & drink in moderation!
Targeted Supplements There are some well-known supplements that may help improve cardio-vascular health. Folic acid and B12 may help lower Homocysteine, which, when elevated, is an independent heart disease risk factor. Antioxidants such as vitamin E and phytonutrients may help prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which may reduce your risk to arterial plaque. Omega 3 essential fatty acids may help reduce inflammation and lower triglycerides.
